STELLA MARIS CHOIR:
Among the fundamental ancient principles of liturgy which were re-awakened at the Second Vatican Council is the understanding that liturgy is at its best, an interactive experience, a living conversation between the people of God and the very God they worship, AND a dynamic communication between the members of the assembly who come not merely as individuals, but as members engaged in both celebrating and forming community.
With this vision in mind, the role of the church choir also took on a new significance, moving from the former role of "...performance of scared music to edify the faithful..." to that of "...supporting and animating the sung prayer of the community."
The Council Fathers remind us in the Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy that "The principal choir is the assembly gathered in prayer."
The Stella Maris Choir which ministers at the 9:30 Sunday Mass embraces this dynamic, and strives to develop its skills as leaders and animators of the music of the gathered assembly, by committing to minister at Liturgy each week of the year, and to rehearse weekly in the rectory after the 9:30 Mass.
New singers and instrumentalist are welcome and encouraged to explore the possibilities of ministry with us — please contact the Star of the Sea Music Director, Rob Grant, at 415-647-5205, or at robbienss@aol.com.
